Greece Tips

Useful tips in Greece that a visitor should be aware of about, are some Greek Habits:

In Greece, just like Italy, you will meet the so-called “siesta”. This means that the majority of people usually rest at midday after lunch and continue their work in the afternoon. Thus arises the following hours for the shops, which changes depending on the season.

Monday: 8:30-14:30

Tuesday: 8:30-14:30 & 17:30-21:00

Wednesday: 8:30-14:30

Friday: 8:30-14:30 & 17:30-21:00

Saturday: 8:30-14:30

Sunday: closed

The above opening hours of shops are not binding and vary from region to region, depending on the agreement of local business associations. As a result, we would advise you to get informed for further details according to your destination. Super Markets remain open daily (except Sundays) from 8:00 to 21:00.

Another remarkable feature of Greece is the great variety of kiosks, which have almost disappeared from the rest of the world. The visitor in every city of Greece,  can encounter every 50 – 100 meters a kiosk from where they can obtain various little things, such as phone cards, cigarettes, newspapers, soft drinks etc. The owners of the kiosks “can also be used as maps”, since for any direction you may ask them, they are always up to date!
