Agios Isidoros chapel

Agios Isidoros is a small chapel with a low concrete roof which is currently located in the district Letsena of Chios. Previously, in its place was the early Christian basilica of Agios Isidoros that was devastated by the earthquake of 1881.

It is decorated with mosaics, as well as with other artistic works that have survived from the basilica. Furthermore, inside the church there is an underground crypt which preserves relics of Agios Isidoros and Agia Meropi who left their last breath on the island.

According to the third excavation of Byzantine Antiquities it was found that the basilica was built during the 5th century and has gone through five different building phases.
