Fanari (Faros)

The beautiful village of Fanari, or Faros as the locals use to call it, is built by the sea, on the east coast of the island near the airport. In the area, you will many cafes and bars, where you can have a coffee or a drink, as well as taverns and restaurants, to taste delicious seafood.

It is worth driving a little further in order to visit the ancient town where the famous Hellenistic watchtower of Drakano stands. A few kilometers away from Fanari village, at the bay of Iero, near the Iero cave,you will find the Megalithic monuments (Menhir). Also, in the same area, are located the healing springs of Agia Kiriaki and the wetlands of Chilopotamos.

Moreover, here you will find some of the most beautiful beaches of Ikaria Island. Depending on your liking, you can choose between the cosmopolitan beach of Faros, and the secluded beaches of Iero, Drakano or Saint George, which is located near the homonymous chapel. What all of those beaches have in common, is their beautiful turquoise waters.
