Kallimasia

Kallimasia is hidden among the lentisks and the olive trees. It is one of the greatest medieval villages of the island and it lies about 15 km away from the town of Chios and its population reaches 1,100 people.

The village underwent great damage during the earthquake of 1881. Today, the ruins of the medieval walls as well as the towers that protected the old town are preserved. What is more, the monastery of Panagia Plakidiotisas, which was founded in the 16th century, is maintained and now operates as a convent.

We would suggest you to visit the Folk Museum of the region, which is one of the most remarkable folkloric of our country. Moreover, in the village still exists today, “Women's Handicraft Cooperative” which keeps alive the tradition of the island.

Close to Kallimasia you can swim in the cosmopolitan Agia Fotia as well as in the more deserted beaches of Agios Aimilianos and Agios Ioannis.
