Mytilinii village
The village of Mytilinii is located in a green valley, only ten kilometers away from Vathi. It has taken its name after the first settlers who came here from Mytilene, the capital town of Lesvos. The cobblestone streets, the enchanting temples, the quaint old houses along with the vitality of the residents, conform a beautiful picture in the eyes of the visitors.
In Mytilinii, you will find the old temples of the Virgin Mary, with its icons dating back to the 17th and 18th century, Saint Anthony, with the rare books of the 17th century, Saint Matrona, Eyagelismou and Saint Demetrius, with the old icon of the Life Giving Spring. Moreover, in the village is located the famous Museum of Natural History of the Aegean, which attracts many visitors willing to admire its unique paleontological exhibits. Furthermore, attractions of the settlements are the two windmills that are still well preserved, as well as Efthimiadis School.
Not far away from Mytilinii, ruins of an old castle have been found, as well as many other significant archaeological findings. You should make a visit at the famous Monastery of Agia Triada, which is located only three kilometers away from the settlement and houses a big library. Near the settlement, you can also find the small chapels of Saint John and Saint Panteleimon. Finally, as you are leaving Mytilinii, you will see two old bridges. One of them is built on the path to the beach of Kokkari and the other on the way to the capital town of Samos.
