Tholopotami

Tholopotami was built in the 12th century on the top of Profitis Ilias (“Prophet Elijah”). Its name is due to a source which existed nearby and spurted muddy water. It is worth visit and admiring the view of the plains as well as the coast of Asia Minor from high above.

As soon as you enter the village, you will be greeted by old windmills. You can stroll through the narrow streets of Tholopotami with the tall trees and the running waters. You can also visit the chapel of Agios Petros (“St. Peter”) on the east side of the village.

The green area with the ruins of medieval towers that extends in front of Tholopotami is called Sklavia (“Slavery”) and was owned by the Ioustiniani family during the occupation of the Genoese. The houses have almost been destroyed and are considered very important because they are the first houses of Kambos.
