Zodochos Pigi in Ikaria

The monastery of Zodochos Pigi, is located near the village of Christos that belongs to the area of Agios Kirikos. It was built in 1890, but from the middle of the 20th century, no liturgies take place.

It has cells in south and east and an impressive wall to the west. In the center of the monastery, is the church, which is dedicated to Zodochos Pigi. Inside the church, you will find many remarkable wall paintings, as well as an ornate wooden cross placed above the temple. A Gospel of 1872 and Christian manuscripts that date back to the 19th century are kept in the monastery.

Earlier, in the monastery, there used to operate a watermill. Nowadays the water that springs in the monastery’s courtyard, supplies the settlement of Christos. Finally, it should be noted that the monastery of Zodochos Pigi celebrates on Easter Friday.
