Agia Theoktisti
The monastery of Agia Theoktisti, is located in a green area, full of tall pine trees, in the north of the island not too far from the settlement of Pigi. It was built during the 16th century, although according to the legend, the monastery was built in October of 1688. It is also believed that the first church under the rock was built in the 14th century.
The monastery has 15 cells and ancillary areas. Inside the church, which is dedicated to Agia Theoktisti from Lesvos, you will find murals depicting the Holy Bible. Also, the relics of Agia Theoktisti are kept in the monastery and attract many pilgrims every year.
Near the monastery there is a cave, in which the chapel of the monastery is built, the famous “Theoskepasti”. This is a very impressive chapel, which is actually located under a rock. There, you will have the opportunity to admire an ornate wooden temple, built in the late 19th century.
Finally, it should be noted that the monastery celebrates on November 9.
