Anaxos - Enjoy the Sunset and the Long Sandy Shore

Anaxos is set 3 kilometers away from Petra. It is located in a green valley lined by a long sandy shore on its northwestern side.

Anaxos boasts one of the most beautiful, family-friendly and best-organized beaches on Lesvos, making it an ideal place to visit if you are travelling with your young or merely want to relax in an idyllic natural setting. Anaxos beach is famed for the beauty of its sunsets: gazing at the slowly setting sun is a favorite pastime enjoyed by hundreds of visitors to the area.The beach has continued to receive Blue Flag certification over the course of several years.

Those on the look-out for virgin beaches should definitely call on Ambelia (also called ‘Mikri Tsichranda’), a beach located about 3.5 kilometers away from Anaxos. Visitors here will enjoy the quiet sandy shore and small turtle creek. A mere 15-minute drive from Anaxos is the beach at Megali Tsichranda, which is ideal for a refreshing swim and a meal in one of the few tavernas on site. The tiny chapel of Saint Panteleimon at the east end of the shore is also worth a visit.

Anaxos is home to a variety of hotels, cafes and restaurants, however development has compromised none of the essentially tranquil atmosphere in the village. Anaxos remains a small resort known for its peaceful air, serial visitors and genuinely welcoming locals.
