This temple, is built at the entrance of a cave at the foot of mountain Kerkis. It is located south of the island, not far away from the settlement of Marathokampos, and it is dedicated to Virgin Mary. According to tradition, the cave in which the temple is built, is called “The Cave Of Pythagoras”, due to the fact that there had found refuge the ancient Greek mathematician when tyrant Polycrates persecuted him.

It is a small temple that dates back to the 11th century. Inside it, you will have the opportunity to admire some very well-preserved wall paintings. Inside the cave, there are also a pit and a water tank.

The small temple is perched on mount Kerkis and there you will find a very interesting path through nature, which attracts many visitors every year. To get there, you should follow the stone stairs leading to the entrance of the cave.
