Platanos
Platanos is a picturesque village that dates back to the 17th century, climbed up on a mountain, in an overgrown area filled with vineyards and plane trees, only ten kilometers away from Karlovasi. The settlement has been named after the tall plane trees (in Greek “platanos”) existing in the central square of the village and offer their shade to the many visitors. It has a magnificent view to mount Kerkis and the deep blue sea of the Aegean.
Take a tour through the narrow streets of the village and admire the picturesque houses of unique architecture, the primary school that has been built by a famous Samian named Nicholas Tsoukalidakis, as well as the old temples of Koimiseos tis Theotokou and Saint George. The picturesque small square of the settlement with the tall plane trees, the traditional taverns and the found with the cool water, is the ideal place to rest a bit from your tour and perhaps enjoy the local treats.
