Prophet Elijah monastery

The monastery of Prophet Elijah, is built on the northwest coast of Samos island, not far away from Karlovasi. It was founded by the two monks (Theofilus and Gregory), who built the world famous New Monastery of Chios.

It is an aisled basilica church with a dome, full of icons of the 18th century. The icon of Prophet Elijah in its silver coating has a prominent place in the temple. If you find yourselves in that monastery, then grab the chance to admire the ornate marble floor, which depicts Adam and Eve, as well as the many old wall paintings (18th century).

Finally, near the temple, you will find the church of Ypsosis Timiou Stavrou (Exaltation of the Holy Cross).
