Каламоти

The traditional settlement of Kalamoti was built during the 14th century by the Genoese conquerors. The villagers are mainly engaged in agriculture as well as in the production of mastic. What is more, in the fertile plains of the area are planted many fruit species and the famous juicy watermelons of Kalamoti.

The houses of the settlement are made of stone and have beautiful carved doors. It is worth it to stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of the village, among the galleries and the beautiful arches. In the center of Kalamoti you will find the carved monument, created by artist Michael Tombros.

Outside the village there is the Byzantine church of Panagia Agrelopou with the beautiful frescoes of the 14th century as well as with the ornate wooden temple. In addition, a remarkable monument is the church of Panagia tis Sikelias (“Holy Mary of Sicily”), which was built during the 13th century and is located north of Kalamoti.
