The children of the village gather twigs, called “achinopodia”

The children of the village gather twigs, calledachinopodia” , from the surrounding mountain slopes, in order to get a pile.

On Saturday at 12o’clock, on the hearing of a prayer ( which can be translated into “Christ is risen”), they set the pile on fire and the flames last until the early morning hours, illuminating the dark night sky.

Parts of this custom are the homemade of dynamite fireworks prepared by the locals. With their help, an “explosive” atmosphere that lasts from the evening of Easter until the Sunday of Easter.
