Armolia
In a fertile valley near Kalamoti, stands the medieval settlement of Armolia. The villagers have kept for years the tradition of ceramic art. In the local laboratories produce beautiful clay creations (vases, bowls, pitchers) with great enthusiasm as well as with much imagination.
The village, despite the severe damage that suffered during the earthquake of 1881, still retains its medieval character. A stroll through the narrow cobbled alleys, with the beautiful arches and the stone buildings will take you back to another era. In the village you will find the church of Agios Dimitrios (“St. Demetrius”) with the ornate temple of 1744.
Just outside the village stand the imposing medieval castle of Apolichnon and the Moni Zoodohou Pigis Vretou (“Life-Giving Spring of Vretos”) which was built during the 18th century. In order to reach the castle, you will need to drive a beautiful route through nature.
