Christos
The traditional settlement of Christos is located in the northwestern part of the island, at an altitude of 500 meters up on mount Fytrou. You will find it in an overgrown area, surrounded by dense vegetation, full of oaks, plane trees, pine trees, vines and fruit trees.
Picturesque houses, Byzantine temples and local shops with traditional products, emerge among the narrow cobblestone streets of the settlement. It is worth sitting at one of the cafes you will find in the village’s central square and taste local delicacies overlooking the endless Aegean Sea. In the area, you will find some hotel accommodations where you can enjoy a comfortable as well as quiet stay.
Not far away from the settlement of Christos, you will find the Monastery of Metamorphosis tis Theotokou Monte, with the ornate carved epitaph. If you are willing to drive a little farther, you should visit the village of Agios Polycarpos in order to gaze at the interest exhibits of the Folklore Museum that is settled in the region. For those of you who are fond of hiking, we would suggest that they make the famous “Round of Raches”, which is actually one of the most beautiful routes on the island of Ikaria. Finally, not too far away from the village, you will find the artificial lakes of Pezi and Vathes, which are the most important wetlands of the island.
