Karfas

Karfas is 6 kilometers away from the town of Chios and is the largest tourist resort of the island. A well-organized sandy beach with shallow water is waiting for you to enjoy a swim and to deal with any water sport you like. The area has many hotels and apartments as well as many restaurants and taverns where you can taste the local delicacies. The entertainment in the numerous bars of Karfas lasts until the early morning hours.


Just outside Karfas you will find the ancient quarries of Korakion (“Ravens”), the medieval watch-tower of Agia Eleni (“St. Helen”) as well as the monastery of Ai Giorgi (“St. George”). You can also visit the Moni of Agios Konstantinos and Elenis (“Monastery of St. Constantine and Helen”) near Fragovouni, which was founded in 1898 by Osios Pachomios (“Saint Pachomius”). This is a strict female monastery with beautiful hand-woven images which are made by monks that live there.
