Olympi
Olympi village is one of the beautiful medieval villages of the area of Mastihohoria and it has been declared a protected monument. It lies about six kilometers from Pyrgi and was built during the 14th century. Today, its residents are mainly engaged in agriculture and apiculture.
The town planning as well as the architecture of the village resembles with those Pyrgi and Mesta. The Genoese conquerors built the houses next to each other, creating a solid fortress which protected the inhabitants from pirate attacks. The narrow cobblestone streets are full of dead ends, creating a sense of maze. A walk around the beautiful cobbled streets with arches and the small arcades, which made of stone, will take you to another era.
It is worth visiting the church of Agia Paraskevi with its elaborately carved temple. What is more, a monument of the village is the Trapeza ton Olympon (“Bank of Olympus”), a medieval two-storey building which retains until today its special architecture.
A few kilometers outside the village you will find the valuable cave of Olympus, which is one of the most beautiful of our country. Furthermore, near Olympia is the deserted beach of Kato Fana as well as the exotic beaches of Agia Dynami (“Holy Power”) and Salagonas with their beautiful emerald waters.
